How can a postpartum doula help you in Scranton, PA & surrounding areas?
Rooted In Nurture provides postpartum Doula support to new mothers in Scranton, PA and surrounding areas!
This is a time of intense change for you, your body, and your family. You do not, and should not, have to go at it alone. Every parent does need a village!
Each family has different desires, needs, and goals for this time period. During our time together I will nurture you so that you can focus on nurturing your baby. My goal is to make you feel supported, empowered, and confident to keep going on your own once our time is through.
Postpartum Doula support includes, but is not limited to:
- Opportunities for self care & sleep! Adequate rest is so very important for a new mother’s healing & mental health.
- Emotional support. Helping you navigate the emotional & physical challenges that come with childbirth & the postpartum period.
- Newborn care, including diapering, baby soothing techniques, assisting with bathing, newborn care education, etc.
- Meal planning, meal preparation, and assistance with setting up a Meal Train.
- Breastfeeding support, ensuring proper latch.
- Guidance on bottle feeding.
- Monitoring & observing baby’s health and development, noting any concerns & advising parents if/when medical attention is recommended. As well as mom’s health and recovery! As a nurse, I’ve always got a close eye on these things and watching for red flags.
- Light household tasks such as organization, laundry, bottle prep, cleaning of breast pump parts, setting up breastfeeding & diapering stations within the home, etc.
- Assist with physical recovery & healing, i.e. preparing herbal baths, ensuring comfort, monitoring for signs of postpartum mood disorders, etc.
- Screening for postpartum mental health issues.
- Family adjustment tips, encouraging open communication, encouraging self-care for parents, reinforcing teamwork, help with establishing flexible routines, setting realistic expectations for both parents and baby.
- Sibling care, ensuring siblings receive attention during this transition which can also allow for parents to have quiet bonding time with baby.
- Referrals to outside community resources accordingly.
