Why should I hire a postpartum doula?
So many women are lacking the support needed to help them heal & thrive after childbirth which can lead to issues such as illness, depression, high anxiety, burnout and more frequent trips to a doctors office or ER. A postpartum doula brings a vast amount of care and valuable support to help families navigate this beautiful time with more energy, confidence, and preparedness. Our expertise will ease the transition to parenthood, reduce stress, reduce the amount of calls and visits to your medical care provider & ER, and promote overall well-being for you and your baby. What is the difference between a Postpartum Doula and a midwife?
A midwife and a postpartum doula each have two distinct roles. A midwife is a medical professional that provides care to women during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum time period and are trained to provide prenatal care and deliver babies. A postpartum doula is a non-medical professional who provides emotional, physical, and evidence based informational support to new parents and families after the birth of a baby. Unlike midwives, doulas do not provide medical care or deliver babies. Rather, they focus on assisting families with the transition into parenthood.
If I am not biologically giving birth can I benefit from your services if I am adopting a baby?
Yes, absolutely! The postpartum time period can be a time of adjustment, emotional changes, and new responsibilities for ALL parents, regardless of the path to parenthood! People need community and human connection and the first few weeks after adding a new baby into your home can often feel somewhat isolating. When there is a trained professional there to support and guide you along the journey, that can greatly improve confidence as you welcome your new role.
What does it mean to hold space?
When you hold space for someone you are actively present and attentive to their needs. It means being an empathetic listener, allowing them to freely share their thoughts and emotions without interruption or judgment. By holding space I will offer support, compassion, and validation, creating a safe space for you to explore your feelings, find clarity, and work through challenges. Doing so in a nurturing and non-distracting environment that encourages open and honest expression. How far in advance should I hire a Postpartum Doula?
We believe there is a doula out there for everyone. Although, you may not personally connect with every doula out there, so it is a good idea to begin becoming familiar with what options are available to you in your area as early as possible in your pregnancy. In your second trimester, when your energy is higher and your feeling pretty well, is a great time to begin the process of setting up a meet & greet with a postpartum doula. This will give you plenty of time to find the right one for you and your family. It is never too early and also never too late to reach out to me for support. Some new parents wait and hire postpartum doula’s after the birth of their baby, and that is OK too! Please remember, booking early will better ensure you get the amount of support you are looking for at the schedule you desire.
